So maybe the new power adapter we bough was no good? I bought another one and it still does not power the laptop. So I thought maybe the external charger wasn't working, but if I just boot and go straight into the bios, the laptop stays powered on for a long time. It wants to run through a repair process and shuts off after a few seconds of that message. Well, they charge and it powers up on batter power - sort of. We bought an external batter charger to charge the batteries. So eventually we bought a new mainboard, thinking something was wrong there. So I bought a new port, opened up the laptop and switched out the port figuring it wasn't making good contact. Of course we purchased a new power adapter. Eventually the 2 batteries I had ran out of juice. It began with needing to move the plug around until it detected it, but after a while that failed. I have an Acer Aspire V3-771 that fails to detect the power adapter.
